Before my bud Alain beats me to it i thought i'd ask you all what is the best movie(s) you ever watched? Since we're all in "the git naked before everytbody" mode, i'll start.

My all time favorite movie is: Contact with Jodie Foster, since i'm not much of a reader, i do appreciate those movies that get you thinking and dreaming and challenge your mind scientificly and spiritually.

What's your pick?

I would say mine is either Fargo or Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Then again, I am a starnge one.

OK, some bizarre selections:

8-1/2 - Fellini
Persona - Bergman

For some reason, I really, really like Sophie's Choice
To Have and Have Not, and His Girl Friday - I really like Howard Hawkes' movies.

Peter Weir's movies - all good but earlier better. Picnic at Hanging Rock.

I'll think of a zillion others.

I'm a big Wes Anderson fan... My favorite is Rushmore.

Second favorite is Waiting For Guffman, written/directed by Christopher Guest (aka Nigel Tufnel from Spinal Tap, also played the six-fingered man on The Princess Bride).

Hmm...

Shawshank Redemption (was actually a Stephen King short story/Novella called "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" that was way better than the movie)

The Great Escape (again, the book was better but only 'cause it was non-fiction).

Bad Santa. Funny but with some depth.

Anything with Clint Eastwood or Jimmy Stewart

The Terminator Series

Anything that has a character called "Indiana Jones".PaulB38857.4388541667

Oof. Difficult. Don't really have one, per se.

- American Beauty
- The Usual Suspects
- This is Spinal Tap
- Fight Club
- The Princess Bride
- Lord of the Rings films (extended editions)
- Donnie Darko
- O Brother where are though (although, honestly, mostly because of the music)
- Serenity (biased, because I loved the TV show that spawned it)

Of the movies I've watched recently, 'Capote' rates an honourable mention. Excellent film, excellent performance.

" Fargo" came first to my mind. Then, sorry, "Caddyshack," "Animal House,"(lived most of it- not the ROTC side, surprise, surprise)"Blazing Saddles," and "True Grit" and "Rooster Cogburn." I will watch "Hunt for Red October" almost any time it comes on. These are all movies that I have on tape/DVD but will watch on the "TV" nonetheless.

Okay, you've asked a difficult thing Serge, but here goes...if I were stranded on a desert isle that had electricity...with only a DVD player and lifetime supply of Doritos, Oreos, and Ben & Jerry's....I'd be okay as long as I had these titles...

1. The Princess Bride
2. O Brother Where Art Thou?
3. The Shawshank Redemption
4. Forrest Gump
5. Napolean Dynamite

If my wife and I were stranded together, I'd also need...

6. Sabrina
7. Little Women
8. Pride and Predjudice

Hands down
GoodFellas
The Usual Suspects
Both are just groundbreaking masterpieces in the crime genre, I just eat that stuff with a spoon. I love everything Scorsese has done - Mean Streets, New York New York, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver...........you name it.
Cheers

Hmm,

How about these three, in order:

1. Shine
2. The Pianist
3. The Piano

All great movies and I have no idea why they are all piano related, especially being a life long classical guitarist.

What's wrong with you people? There's only one "best" movie ever:

TOP GUN

"That's right, Ice. Man. I am dangerous."
"He went this way, We went that way. I said to Hollywood, 'Where'd he
go?' Hollywood said, 'Where'd whoooo go?'"
"I feel the need...the need for speed!"
"MOTHER GOOSE YOU !"
"You screw up just this much and you'll be flying a cargo plane full of
rubber dog out of Hong Kong! Dismissed."
"You still have the number of that truck driving school we saw on TV?"
"I want some BUTTS!"
"I'm going to bring him in closer. YOUR GOING TO DO WHAT??!!"

Nothing comes close to:

"That Thing You Do!".

except perhaps "Oh Brother Where Art Thou?"

I tend to like anything done by Tom Hanks, and also most stuff by Nicholas Cage. Not sure why.
Oh....and "Sweet Home Abalam"...
I mean, Alabama.

Wow virtually all my favorites were mentioned. My wife and I love Whale Rider. If you have kids check it out. If you don't check it out anyway.
